In a radical departure from the gel habitats that made AntWorks® famous, the Rainbow Ants is a sand filled habitat unlike anything you have ever seen. You prepare the canvas, then watch your ants create the art! Your Rainbow Ants habitat comes with five packets of brightly colored sand. Simply pour the colored sand into the transparent habitat in any order you choose. You can keep each vibrant color layer separate, overlap the colors for endless variety, or repeat your color pattern to create a recurring theme. You create the colorful canvas in which your ants will excavate their unique tunnel art. The Rainbow Ants habitat includes instructions for adding the special colored sand, moistening the sand to create a stable tunneling environment, tips for adding your ants* and even ant feeding suggestions. Learning made fun! If you are looking for an ant habitat that is educational, teaches responsibility, and will really engage your youngster, you need to seriously consider the Rainbow Ants habitat. Unlike gel filled habitats that are primarily a passive experience, the Rainbow Ants habitat requires active participation in its setup and ongoing maintenance for the life of the colony. Unlike traditional sand filled habitats, the colorful sand of the Rainbow Ant habitat promotes creative expression in its setup and invites imaginative interpretation in the ongoing observation. Since the Rainbow Ants habitat requires regular feeding and watering of the ants in order to maintain a healthy colony, it helps teach personal responsibility. Although the Rainbow Ants habitat contains no air holes, removal of the “cat proof” cover during the regular feeding and watering of your ants will ensure an adequate supply of fresh air. Secure cat proof lid for your peace of mind. Due to the sand fill tunneling medium, the Rainbow Ants habitat is not designed for tipping, shaking or other movement after your ants start tunneling. The fact is, excessive movement or vibration will collapse the tunnels in any sand filled habitat. However, pets being pets and kids being kids, it’s nice to know the Rainbow Ants habitat features the secure “cat proof” closure system used on all AntWorks® habitats. Even if the unthinkable happens, and your Rainbow Ants habitat gets tipped on its side, the top will stay securely in place thanks to the compressible rubber seal integrated into the lid. While the Rainbow Ants habitat does not ship with ants, it does include an order form to receive a supply of live Harvester ants by mail.* For the more adventurous, you can gather your own ants to populate your Rainbow Ants habitat.
