The STS-107 mission carried experiments to study animal life in space. One experiment was designed to test if ants would be able to tunnel successfully in microgravity. The Antquarium® nutrient gel habitat is a completely self contained environment for ants. Designed to withstand the “G” forces of launch and the vibration of landing, the nutrient gel provides a stable tunneling environment that is perfect for young adventurers. While it is never a good idea to shake your ant habitat, if it is somehow inadvertently bumped it won’t cause the tunnels to collapse, burying your worker ants in the process.
The Antquarium® ant habitat comes prefilled with a special nutrient gel. The translucent blue gel is complete with all the necessary nutrients to promote healthy growth in your new ant colony. In addition, the gel contains mold and fungus inhibitors that will help to keep your Antquarium® crystal clear in spite of the elevated humidity most ants prefer.
The translucent blue gel in the Antquarium® ant habitat provides a remarkable, 3-D view of your ant colony. Watch your ants live, work and tunnel in the nutritious and non-toxic gel as they create tunnel after intricate tunnel.
