The Praying Mantis Kit allows you to get up close and personal in your observation of one of nature's most exotic insects! The mantis habitat springs open to its full 9 inch height for observational use and compresses to approximately 1 inch in height for compact storage. The compactable praying mantis habitat is constructed with a durable canvas bottom, fine mesh net walls, and a clear vinyl top with secure zipper access. After use, the mantis habitat can be cleaned and reused over and over again.
A simple, repeatable, 4 step process allows you to observe the incredible transformation of the praying mantis as they grow from tiny emerging nymphs, to a full grown adult predators in a matter of months!
- Order your Praying Mantis egg case by fax or mail using the coupon included in your Praying Mantis Kit. (Allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery* of your mantis egg case.)
- When your mantis egg case arrives, attach it to a stick and place it in the mantis habitat. Monitor the egg case until you observe the nymphs hatching out.
- Separate the emerging nymphs and feed them for approximately 3 weeks until they grow large enough to hunt for themselves. (Share excess mantis nymphs with your friends or release them into your yard or garden to help control undesirable insects.)
- Transfer your chosen mantis nymphs into the screen walled habitat where you can continue to observe as they grow into adulthood and hunt for insects that you release into the habitat.
If you desire a more educational experience, for a classroom or home schooling science project, you can attempt to raise one or more breeding pairs of praying mantis. Gathering the resulting egg cases will allow you to continue your mantis observations with a whole new generation of praying mantis specimens.
